A drawstring jewelry bag with pockets is a wonderful accessory to have when you are packing for a trip. The pockets allow you to place necklaces, earrings and other pieces of jewelry in separate places so they will not become tangled. This beautiful drawstring jewelry bag can easily be slipped into an overnight bag or a suitcase. The jewelry bag is very easy to sew and will make a wonderful gift for a family member or friend. It uses a small amount of fabric, and one bag can be created in less than an hour.

Lay your newspaper out on a flat surface. Draw a 10-inch circle on the newspaper using the compasses and cut out. This is the pattern for the outer circle of the drawstring jewelry bag. Draw a 7-inch circle on the newspaper using the compasses and cut out. This is the pattern for the inner circle pockets of the drawstring jewelry bag. Place fabric A on your work surface and fold into two layers with the right sides together. Pin the 10-inch circle pattern to the fabric and cut out both layers. Place fabric B on your work surface and fold into two layers with the right sides together. Pin the 7-inch circle pattern to the fabric and cut out both layers.

Sew the two 10-inch circle pieces together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance from the edge. Leave a 1-inch opening for turning. Sew the two 7-inch circle pieces together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance from the edge. Leave a 1-inch opening for turning. Turn the sewn 10-inch circles and the sewn 7-inch circles right side out through the openings. Press the circles and hand sew the openings closed.

Fold the 7-inch circle in half and press. Fold again and press. Continue to press until you have eight creased pie sections when the circle is unfolded. Place the small circle on top of the large circle and center. Pin the circles together to secure. Topstitch along each crease on the small circle. Backstitch each seam to secure on the edge of the small circle.

Topstitch around the large circle an inch from the outer edge. Topstitch around the large circle again 1 1/2 inches from the edge. This will form a casing. Fold the large circle in half. Place a straight pin through the casing at the fold on both sides of the circle. Cut a small slit in the casing at both pinned marks. This is done on the outside of the bag.

Cut two ribbon lengths 24 inches long. Attach the small safety pin to one end of one ribbon. Thread the ribbon in one hole of the casing, around the bag and out the same hole. Remove the safety pin and attach to one end of the other ribbon. Thread the other ribbon in the other hole of the casing, around the bag and out the same hole. Tie the two ribbon ends together in an overhand knot on each side of the drawstring jewelry bag with pockets. Pull the ribbons on both sides of the bag to draw closed.
